About Bakkie Pleur
Hello! My name is Lana, the maker behind Bakkie Pleur.
My journey into ceramics began as a lifeline during a burnout, when my creative spark seemed lost for a long time. As a child, I was always surrounded by pencils, paper, clay, fabric, glitter and paint. Crafting made me so happy, and I wondered where that spark had gone. The creativity came back while joining a ceramics course, and I couldn’t get enough of it! Whenever I'm working with clay, it feels like reliving the crafting days of my childhood.
Wanting to spend more time doing pottery, I started Bakkie Pleur from my dinner table in my student room. I bought a pack of clay, filmed myself creating and started sharing the clumsy videos online. In 2022, I found a studio space in an artists’ collective in Utrecht Overvecht. That’s where Bakkie Pleur could flourish.
Over
Today, my main focus is creating small-batch, handbuilt and handpainted ceramic objects inspired by everyday life, familiar imagery, and memories. Tell me your favourite childhood snack and i'll make a ceramic version of it. I’m especially drawn to painting with underglazes. Exploring colour, layering, and illustration on clay has become a big part of my practice, and don't get enough of.
Alongside creating my own work, I support other creatives through A Cup of Clarity, which are one-on-one mentoring sessions for people who want to start a creative business, or who already have one but feel stuck or in need of direction. It is a very fulfulling part of my job.
Recently, I’ve also started creating online tutorials, sharing my glazing and painting process so others can learn and build confidence in their own work.
At the heart of everything I do is the same intention: bringing joy into everyday life. Whether that’s a handmade mug for slow mornings, a pottery workshop where you forget what time it is, a mentoring session that moves you forward, or a vase that makes a home feel more like home - it’s all about creating space for things that makes us feel good.
Anyhow, thank you for being here.
Liefs,
Lana
